Oncyhomycosis may be a very stubborn condition to treat. While there are reports of a temporary "cure"; we find that the literature and our experience shows that this condition may need periodic treatments to optimize success and desired clinical outcomes. We have extensively reviewed the literature in combination with our experience and have found that the following protocols work best:
Recommended follow up in our office is done at 4, 8 and 12 months and thereafter as needed. Initially, we expect to see “clearing” of the nail at the back part of the nail fold (cuticle). Nail growth is slow and can take 9-12 months to fully grow out.
